Launched in 1999, it was one of the most popular games on the n64 console. Today, the classic game can be relived on the pc using an n64 emulator.
The smash em up game involves 12 characters from the Nintendo stables such as Mario, Pikachu, Samus, captain falcon and so on. Each character has basic fighting moves, apart from special moves unique to each. The single player mode is long and dragging but the multiplayer mode is nothing less than pure fun. One can play in a number of arenas, again taken from Nintendo games. Some of these include Yoshi’s dreamland (the Mario series), Saffron City (Pokemon) and Hyrule Castle (Zelda series). The objective is to take out all the health of the opposition players, or throwing the opponents out of the stadium. There are a number of powerups like Poke balls (releases Pokemon which damage the opposition), baseball bats, laser guns, eggs, bombs, swords, and anything else you can think of from Nintendo games!! The arenas have special external effects themselves, like the tornado in Hyrule Castle, Pokemon enclosure in Saffron City, the pipe system in mushroom kingdom and so on.
With a bit of mastery over the moves, you can go on playing the game forever. Two players can comfortably play on the keyboard, and with a couple of joy pads, you can even have a four way showdown. The game is filled with fun and at times, you just can’t stop playing. In my opinion, it is the best and the craziest multiplayer game ever made.
