Bask in the Aura
October 29, 2008
Motorola recently announced a $2000 phone in the US market. It’s called the AURA, keeping in line with the
4LTR naming scheme that Moto follows nowadays. It’s a luxury handset, the first on from Motorola’s stables since the RAZRv2 luxury edition. In my opinion, the price seems justified. The phone looks absolutely awesome. It’s got a smooth finish, the same kind used on luxury watches, a circular screen, and a form factor that’s identical to the V70. The V70 in itself was a unique phone and had a great advertising campaign that had the song ‘You Spin Me Right Round’ by Dead or Alive. This one however won’t have much publicity considering it’s not mass-market. Coming back to the screen, it’s 480 pixels in diameter. That spells epic fail for java apps, but I’m guessing that the people who pick up this beauty aren’t college-grads wanting to mess around. The body of the aura has chemically etched patterns using the same technology that probably did the Razr keypads. The housing of the phone is crafted from stainless steel. The specs however aren’t exactly setting new standards. It has a 2MPx camera, 2gigs of internal memory, stereo bluetooth, and USB support. It’s a contender to the Nokia 8800 but lacks some in the specs department. But the Motorola faithful and people who don’t want a Nokia will certainly find this to their liking. Motorola should keep releasing phones if they want to get out of the corporate muddle they are in these days.
